Although the 38M Toldi I proved to be inefficient on the battlefield, another 110 Toldi tanks were ordered to be manufactured in 1941. The new model was called the 42M Toldi II and was equipped with a 40 mm gun, while their armor was increased by 20-30mm. Due to a weight increase from 8 tons to 9.3 tons, its top speed decreased from 50km/h to 47km/h. The Toldi tanks fought on the eastern front and suffered heavy losses. Albeit weak battle tanks, they performed well as reconnaissance vehicles, mainly because of their top speed and operational range. In June-December 1943 80 Toldis were modified into Toldi II.A's, armed with a 40mm 37/42M gun.
