The 5 cm Kampfwagenkanone 38 L/42, or 5 cm KwK 38 L/42, was a German 50mm tank gun. Used on tanks such as the Pzkpfw III Ausf F (late), G, H and the J, this gun was also used as an anti tank gun. Mounted on a static 360° carriage and covered with a pantser shield, the Kwk 38 was not strong enough for tanks such as the T-34 and KV's. Most of these guns were used in the Atlantic-wall on the Western Front. However, the Kwk 38 proved to be an excellent anti-tank weapon in destroying tanks like the British and American light and medium tanks, used by the Allieds in the Western Front. The Kwk 38 L/42 was followed by the longer 5 cm Kwk 39 L/60
