The AS-44 is a Soviet automatic rifle in FHSW used by Soviet riflemen and officers from 1945 onwards.
In game[]

In Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon, it proves to be a very powerful weapon with high accuracy. Its rate of fire is slightly higher than the Stg 44. In-game it has a bipod, but you can't use it although the gun is nevertheless accurate while prone. You can find the weapon on 1945 maps and onwards, between the Axis and the USSR, such as Berlin Streets and also it is a standard assault kit for the USSR on the maps Alaska and Way to Paris, battles against their former Allies.
History[]
In 1943, the 7.62x41mm cartridge was developed, and was sent to all Soviet small arms design bureaus and organizations. At least ten automatic rifles designs were been presented included the AS-44 (AS stands for Alexey Sudayev), in Russian AC-44 (AC stands for Алексе́й Суда́ев), designed by Alexey Ivanovich Sudayev, who had already designed the PPS submachine gun.
By mid 1944, the AS-44 went in trials and it was considered to be the best design. Ordered in low numbers in the spring of 1945, the AS-44 went to Soviet troops for further trials during the summer of that same year, just after VE-Day. After being evaluated by Soviet troops, they generally liked the AS-44 for its longer effective range compared to the PPSh-41 submachine gun. It also proved in better accuracy as a semi-automatic rifle.
However, the positive evaluation didn't lead the design in mass production. It had to have more modifications such as the empty weight off as 5 kg was too heavy. The next trials would had started in early 1946. However, the death of Sudayev on August 17, 1946 prevented this from occurring.
