The German Ardennes Offensive, popularly known as the Battle of the Bulge, started in late December 1944 and was the last major German offensive on the Western Front during World War II. The German army had intended to split the Allied line in half, capture Antwerp and sweep north to encircle and destroy four Allied armies, thus forcing the Allies to negotiate for peace.

The american forces begin by holding all controlpoints on the map. Each is protected by either a static M36 Jackson tank destroyer that functions as a gun emplacement or 57, 76 and 90 mm Anti-Tank guns. There is also an 105 mm howitzer M2A1 both at the controlpoint closest and farthest from the German starting location.
