Overvalwagen, "Assault Vehicle" were armoured personnel carriers built locally for the armed forces in the Dutch East Indies based on Chevrolet 4x2 trucks. Production began after the Netherlands was occupied by Germany and was the most common type of armoured vehicle in the Dutch east indies when the Japanese attacked. The type "B" or Braat, was named after a metalworks located in Surabaya making these specifically for the colonial army, the home guard or Stadswacht had their own design which lacked a machine gun port beside the driver. This type of vehicle could be fitted with additional machineguns in the back, facing the sides or backwards. One version had an naval model 1890 37 mm gun in the middle of the rear compartment of the vehicle. Overvalwagens were captured and used by the Japanese during the war. They were also used after World War II as the Dutch fought against Indonesia which had declared independence. Some vehicles were grafted onto flat cars to run on railroad tracks.
In the first Japanese feature-length animated film, Momotaro: Sacred Sailors (1945) some of the armoured vehicles are clearly inspired by the Overvalwagen with the main difference that those have a turret. The other type of vehicle is even more accurate representation of an another Dutch army vehicle, the Alvis Straussler AC-3. Despite these vehicles being used exclusively by the Dutch in the Pacific and the scene taking place on the island of Sulawesi in the Dutch East Indies all of the soldiers including those seen in the vehicles are speaking English and wearing British uniforms. The movie can be watched in the game on Sabage Field1942.
