The F2A was the first fighter plane with a single wing to be used by the US navy, beating the Grumman F4F Wildcat which later ended up more sucessful. While intended as a carrier based aircraft the F2A was only briefly used on the USS Saratoga (CV-3). They were more often used as ground based aircraft and were also used by Commonwealth forces, the Dutch, the Japanese and had its longest service with the Finnish airforce. The specific version in FHSW is the F2A-3 of which 108 were built for the US Navy, it could carry 2 100lb bombs under its wings. The only US combat service was at Midway and It is therefore present on both the original Battlefield: 1942 Midway and Battle of Midway map. The F2A-3 was also exported, initially to the Dutch East Indies airforce where it was called B-339-23 or B-439. It was later exported to the RAAF.

F2A-1 aircraft meant for export were designated B-239, the majority of which Finland bought. They were meant to arrive for the Winter War but as with much military equipment sent during that conflict it arrived after it had ended. During the continuation war it was remarkably effective with a supposed win to loss ratio of 26 to one.
The texture was made by KYAN for an updated version of Lake Ladoga.
