The Hotchkiss 13.2 mm machine gun was a heavy machine gun that was developed as an light anti-aircraft gun. In the interwar era it was procured by a number of countries, including Poland, Italy and Japan. It was produced under license in the latter two countries. Its most common use was as an anti-craft gun and there were several ground-based mounts and naval mounts for ships. The 13.2 mm machine gun was also used as a weapon in armoured vehicles like the Japanese Type 92 Jyu-Sokosha.

France[]

Mle 1930 was the French Air Force designation of the machine gun. The guns were mounted either on a tripod or a two-wheeled split-trail carriage. It was also used as the main weapon of some light tanks and armoured cars. The Hotchkiss 13.2 mm machine gun was first only chambered in 13.2x99 mm but in response to the fact the French military found that the barrels wore out too fast they were rechambered in 13.2x96 mm Hotchkiss short, the original cartridge would be known as Hotchkiss long.

Japan[]

Type 93[]

The Type 93 was the Japanese navy designation for the weapon as an anti-aircraft gun. Single, twin and quadruple mounts were used on several Japanese Warships. In the mod it is currently used by the destroyer IJN Hatsuzuki, Agano-class, Mogami-class and Takao-class cruisers and the aircraft carrier Ryujo. It was the most numerous anti-aircraft weapon of the IJN Ryujo it had these light guns along the deck rather than heavier ones to rectify the weight balance issue of the ship.

Type 92[]

The Type 92 was the Japanese tank gun variant of the machine gun. It only ended being used in the Type 92 Jyu-Sokosha replacing the Type 91 machine gun in the hull.

Poland[]

A couple dozen were imported to Poland in the 1930s. They were designated 13.2 mm Nkm wz. 30, not to be confused with 7.92 mm Ckm wz.30. They were used by both the army and navy as an anti-aircraft gun. There was also a test to mount the gun in one of the turrets of twin turret Vickers E and 7TP tanks. This machine gun allows twin turret 7TP tanks to damage enemy tanks.

Italy[]

Italy began producing the gun under license in the 1931, these are called 13.2 mm Breda Model 31. As in other countries the machine gun was often used as an anti-aircraft gun for the army and on ships of the navy. They also used it tanks, replacing the Breda 38 in a twin mount in the command tank version of the M15/42 which was the last of the line of medium tanks that began with the Carro Armato M13/40. Machine guns were also replaced on the L3 tankettes, some were exported to Brazil where they stayed and a few were used by Axis forces in late 1943 to 1944.
