Note! This ship is only present on the custom map 3rd Solomon Sea.

One of four Takao-class cruisers. The class improved upon the previous Myoko-class and incorporated elements of the experimental light cruiser Yubari. In 1943 Maya had the third 203 mm gun turret removed and in its place 25 mm anti aircraft guns and two twin 127 mm gun turrets were mounted.

IJN Maya was active for most of the Pacific War. Mostly either protecting or pursuing convoys. Initially held in reserve during the invasion of Phillippines, Maya later joined her sister ships in supporting the landings.

Maya met her end during the Battle of Leyte Gulf in 1944, like the sister ships Atago and Takao she was sunk by a Gato-class submarine. Mistaken for a battleship Maya USS Dace that fired six torpedoes at her four of which hit and caused a massive explosion.
