The Ilyushin Il-2 (Shturmovik=attack aircraft) was a one- or two-seat, single-engine, heavily armored ground attack aircraft, which was used in World War II by the Soviet Union. It is still the most produced aircraft which have ever built. The main purpose of this aircraft was to combat enemy armored vehicles, although it was also used against infantry.

The armament consisted of machine guns, cannons of caliber 20 mm, 23 mm or 37 mm, as well as bombs and unguided air-to-surface missiles. From 1943, the shaped-charge anti-tank PTAB bomb was added .

Shturmovik was armoured extremely strong for an aircraft and had heavy lift capability: only the total weight of armor plates was around 700 kilos! The armor of the Il-2 encompassed the entire forward fuselage and protected motor, pilots, fuel tank and the gunner in the two-seater versions. Luftwaffe pilots called Il-2 "Betonflugzeug" (concrete aircraft) and "Zementbomber" (cement bomber) because they could not even survive a direct hit from its 20 mm gun.

IL-2 Sturmovik

In Forgotten Hope Secret Weapon existing variants of IL-2 are modified from Forgotten Hope and also expanded to include additional weaponry. The torpedo bomber Il-2T must waive such as the 23-mm machine guns, and has now correctly a 45-inch rather than a 53-inch torpedo.

The shaped charge bombs PTAB variant from Forgotten Hope are implemented as cluster bombs. Each 16 PTABs are summarized in a cassette, which releases them after ejection and spreads extensively.

A new addition is a version with fire cluster bombs, which works on the same principle. These of course are especially devastating against infantry, but can also destroy tanks when they are in the center of the fire.

Lastly, there are two versions of the Il-2 missiles, one with anti-tank rockets and other one with explosive misses. Latter is identical to the rocket, which is also used by the BM-13-16 "Katyusha".

Il-2 is well armoured, it holds much more than, for example, the German Junkers Ju 87 "Stuka".
