The Leuchtpistole 26 (Heer) was a German flare gun introduced into army service in 1928 by the Walther company. It featured a relatively simple design with a 27mm, smooth bore barrel, a break-action breech, and it soon became the standard signal device of the German armed forces. Later the Leuchtpistole 34 (Heer) was introduced in which the main change was a shorter barrel which reduced weight. However, German engineers soon realized what the potential the Leuchtpistole had for other uses. A rifled, 23mm insert barrel was used to fire a variety of flare and explosive ammunition, and the weapon became known as the Kampfpistole or "combat pistol". A relatively light and portable weapon which increased the distance a soldier could uttilize various types of grenades. It was also called the model Z since a Z had been painted on in phosphorescent paint signifying the rifled barrel. "Züge", grooves.

A further modified model was made, the Sturmpistole. It had a foldable and easily dismountable stock with padding installed and had sights that made it possible to shoot grenades more accurately.

Since it is one of the smallest anti-tank weapons in the game it has a lot of spare shots and does not have as high of a penalty in terms of accuracy when moving, it can even be used when jumping so as to get a good shot at weak spots of the vehicle, such as the roof or making a good shot over cover.

Ammunition[]

This weapon has a multitude of ammunition, much of which is not available at the same time on maps or atleast in the same kit.

Timed HE[]

KampfpistoleHE

The kampfpistole was capable of firing, amongst other things, a hand-grenade that was attached to a long wooden stick. Both of the regular handgrenades were used, the Eihandgranate 39 was used in the Wurfkörper 361 LP (featured ingame). The Stielhandgranate 24 was used in the similar Wurfkörper 358 LP projectile. As the grenade does not detonate on impact it can bounce and roll on objects until it detonates after five seconds.

HEAT rounds[]

There are three different HEAT projectiles with which to destroy vehicles. The visual difference is foremost in size. The smallest is like a regular flare round, while the two larger stick out of the barrel. It has a maximum penetration of 50mm. Which name the smallest one has is unclear.

"Gr40"[]

Kampfpistole Gr61

Erroneously the rifle grenade Gross Gewehr-Panzergranate can be loaded. Serving as the second best HEAT round in overall effectiveness. In Ingame code it is called Gr40. It has a maximum penetration of 70mm.

"Gr61"[]

KampfpistoleHEAT

A HEAT projectile (Panzerwurfkörper 42 LP) was developed to be used against armoured vehicles. It has a maximum penetration of 125mm. Ingame it is errorousnly called gr61 which both has the exact same diameter and is a generally similar HEAT projectile. But that grenade (Gross Panzerganate 61) can only be fired from rifles mounted with the Schiessbecher and loaded with an blank round. Since the caliber of the Schiessbecher is larger than that of the Kampfpistole the grenade would not fit down its barrel.

While penetration is decent with the larger HEAT projectiles, due to its small size damage is quite low so aiming for weak spots is key.

Other special rounds (HE, Smoke)[]

Other special cartridges available are "Smoke" and "HE". Both the HE and smoke rounds detonate on impact. The HE round can hit players behind cover where regular firearms wouldn't be able to hit. Giving an advantage to a weapon otherwise limited by its one shot capability. Smoke rounds can make smokescreen to obscure vision and in turn protect. The HE round is in official nomenclature the "Sprengpatrone Z" and the smoke round the "Nebelgranatpatrone Z".

Timed HE is like the projectile "Timed HE" projectile for the M1 Bazooka in function but smaller, only consisting of one Eihandgranate 39. These bounce and slide until the fuse runs out and explodes with more power than the "HE" round, but requires more thought and is more situational due to the fuse.

Because of the large variety in cartridges, different kits are issued different amount of types and varying quantities of cartridges which define its utility. Officiers, pilots, and tank crewman are issued only with marker and signal cartridges. While some kits feature nothing but the kampfpistole and the Walther P38, they either have only the HEAT cartridge for tank hunting or have all of the explosive variants and smoke rounds aswell depending on the map. Sometimes HEAT rifle grenades either "Gr40" or '61", are accompanied with a rifle such as Mauser 98K or Gewehr 43 instead of having a rifle grenade launcher on said rifle while providing the same abilities. The Kampfpistole loads faster than loading rifle grenades.

Did You Know That?

You can kill a enemy with the Kampfpistole with all rounds, except flare rounds. Even with a signal and a marker round you can!

Trivia[]

  • Along with the Type 10 Signal Pistol they are the only flare guns in FHSW.
  • Several models were used concurrently in the German military during the war. The Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe both had their own versions which had two barrels. These were the Mod. L (Luftwaffe) and Kriegsmarine variant Sternsignalpistole (Doppelmodel).
  • Another model that was issued was the Leuchpistole 42 which also was a result of the need to reduce production time and cost. The modern H&K P2A1 (designed 1974) has a similar appearance and like its counterparts from the second world war it can fire a variety of cartridges, an adapter for 12 gauge can be fitted which allows the loading for many types of ammo.
  • Leuchtpistole.free.fr has much information about the Kampfpistole and other German flare guns before and to the end of World War II.
