The Heavy Tank M6 is an American heavy tank. It was developed under the name T1 and later got the designation M6 when the design was standardized, it was called M6 to make it easy to tell apart from the other tanks in service. Production began 1942, the production order was reduced from 5000 to 100 and then to just 40 that were produced. It was clear that the M4 Sherman was a more useful tank especially for the United States that had to deliver their tanks across the world to get to the battlefield.

The gun layout is unusual, the turret has two coaxially mounted cannons but no machine gun inside. The 37 mm gun can fire canister rounds to deal with infantry. It has the same 3 inch gun as the M10 Tank and the 37 mm used in the M3 Lee medium, and both the M3 and M5 Stuart light tanks. There are two .50 caliber machine guns in the hull and one on top of the turret in a pintle mount.

The front armour is 80 mm at most. The majority of the side armour is 65 mm, but around the engine compartment it is only 50 mm. All the sides of the turret are 90 mm except for the top which is only 25 mm.

Double barrel tanks, especially those with two different cannons in the main turret are quite rare but the Germans made the Neubaufahrzeug before the war and the Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus late in the war. In America the only other example of a tank designed to fight other tanks with two cannons was made by the Marmon Herrington company. They made the MTLS-1G14 at the Dutch request for a medium tank, instead of two different guns this tank had two 37 mm guns in the turret. It is more common with armoured vehicles designed to fight aircraft to have multiple cannons to have as much volume of fire as possible.

This was second American heavy tank ever. The first was the Mark VIII heavy tank which was joint American-British project at the end of the first world war.

Like with many other tanks there is a uparmored variant of the M6 Heavy Tank. The most significant armour increase is in the hull. The front armour has been increased to 130 mm at most while all of the side armour is now 90 mm, reducing the amount of weakspots in the back of the vehicle. The armour around the turret has been increased to a 100 mm but the top is just as thin as the regular tank.

Atleast one M6 Heavy Tank was upgunned with 90 mm T7 gun. That gun was renamed to M3 when it was standardized and became the main gun of the M26 Pershing and M36 Jackson. Despite installing a bigger gun the secondary 37 mm gun was kept.

While the M6 heavy tank was not useful enough to be deployed at the Battlefield, it was still useful in further heavy tank development. It was used as a testbed for the T29 Heavy Tank by first installing the 105 mm gun in a new turret on this tank.

The Heavy Tank M6 was made by Frank, it was tweaked for the mod by FHSWman and the M6A2E1 variant was made by Ningen based on the T-29.
