The Hummel, German for "bumble bee" is a German self-propelled howitzer. It mounted the 15 cm sFH18 heavy field howitzer built on a hybrid chassis combining features of the Panzer III and IV. The gun had an effective range of 13 kilometers which was more than twice as much as the 15 cm infantry guns that the Sturmpanzer I and II vehicles had. The first prototype of this vehicle had the 105 mm leFH18 gun like the Panzerhaubitze Wespe, but since this vehicle was larger it was decided that the standard 15 cm heavy howitzer was more appropriate. The chassis was called Geschützwagen III/IV and was also used to mount the 88 mm PaK 43 gun as the Nashorn tank destroyer. The model represented in the mod is an early production vehicle, in later production from 1944 the drivers compartment was expanded and the front hull was symmetrical.

A fairly unique type armour-piercing rounds were developed for the sFH18 gun used on the Hummel. 88 mm AP ammo was fitted with sabots so that it could be fired through the 15 cm barrel. This meant it can be used against enemy tanks as well but it reloads slowly compared to an 88 mm gun.

The American counterpart is the M12 155 mm GMC, the firepower is similar but the crew are left more exposed than in this vehicle. The Soviet SU-152 and ISU-152 on the other hand are far more protected. They also have a machine gun to deal with infantry or even light vehicles with the DShK on the ISU.

The original Nashorn model was made by Frank and it was tweaked by Ningen with the addition of 15 cm sFH18 from the Battlegroup 42 mod.
