While the Thompson SMG was designed back in 1917, the M1928A1 variant seen above did not enter mass production until just before the events of Pearl Harbor took place. This new version included provisions for a sling, and a horizontal foregrip that replaced the vertical grip of previous versions. Chambered in the .45 ACP round, the Thompson could either be fitted with a 20-round box magazine, or 50-round drum magazine, but frontline combat soon highlighted the problems of the 50-round one. In all, approximately 562,000 were made, with several being sent to other countries, like the Soviet Union, as a part of the lend-lease program. Although Soviet access to .45 ACP was sparse, especially compared with 7.62x25 Tokarev domestically produced for their own pistols and sub machineguns meant that the Thompson saw limited use with some of the elite unit such as the marine infantry.

The 1928 Thompson was the second most common SMG in the Dutch colonial army after the MP-28 (designated M/1938 Schmeisser).

The M1A1 Thompson replaced it in US service, while the British used the Sten more and more as production of it increased since it was easier and cheaper to produce.

A blaze is very strong in the short distance, but don't put too much confidence because scattering by the blaze is intense. It is rare that you can't defeat an enemy even if you shoot a full magazine exhaustively.

The Platoon leader and close combat soldiers are mainly equipped with it.

Along with the MP 18 they are the only submachine guns with an capacity of 50 rounds. Which while not the highest in the game it is in the pacific and north african theater of war.

Uncommon in French service, it is part of pick-up kits in FHT The Breaking Point coupled with frag grenades and a smoke grenade.
