USS Eversole was a destroyer escort ship of the John C. Butler class. Like the other ships in the class it was named after a sailor that had died in combat in the first years of the Pacific War. The primary duty of Eversole was to combat enemy submarines. After the Battle of Leyte Gulf Eversole was sunk by a submarine, presumably I-45 which was discovered and sunk by two other destroyer escorts shortly after.
