The Vickers K is a British rapid-firing machine gun, it was reliable and could fire 1000-1200 rounds a minute but its top-mounted magazines was a reason it was beat by the Browning machine gun as the standard machine gun of RAF. The top mounted magazine was a problem for mounting the gun in the wings of aircraft.
The Vickers K was developed from the Vickers Berthier machine gun that had been in competition with the Bren Mk.I as the next light machine gun of the British army, while it lost in this case it was adopted by the British Indian Army. The Vickers K was also known as the Vickers Gas Operated (Vickers G.O.) to distinguish it from the older water cooled Vickers .303 heavy machine gun which was recoil operated.
The Vickers K was mounted in various vehicles from Jeeps including those used used by the SAS and in the Crusader AA Mk.III to ships and aircraft. In ground use they were often in twin mounts. Aircraft with the Vickers K in the rear gunner position include the Fairey Swordfish and Bristol Type 152 Beaufort. In naval use it began to replace the standard Lewis .303 machine gun in 1942. It is uncommon in the mod but on the map Arctic Convoy the British destroyers have their anti-aircraft armament increased with light anti-aircraft guns like the Vickers K, .50 M2HB Browning and 20 mm Oerlikon.
